5 Things to Do in San Diego for a Perfect Fall Trip in San Diego
Fall is a great time of year to visit San Diego. The funky beach town is known for its beautiful year-round weather and warm, sunny beaches. Even in September and October, the sun is out almost every day and the temperature hovers around 75 degrees. If you are planning a getaway to San Diego, here are some the best things to do in San Diego in the fall.
Take a Trip to the Beach
Most people visit San Diego June thru August when school is still on summer break, making the fall months of September, October, and November the ideal time to visit the beach. The beaches will be less crowded, but the weather will still be warm. San Diego has plenty of gorgeous beaches to choose from and each one has its own unique charm. Pacific Beach, located between Ocean Beach and La Jolla, is one of the best beaches in San Diego. It is great for long walks along the ocean, as there is a boardwalk with restaurants, bars, shops, and activities for you and your family. If you are traveling with your dog, Ocean Beach is one of the city’s few dog-friendly beaches. It is also the location of the Ocean Beach Pier, which is a popular fishing spot.
Kids Free San Diego
If you are traveling to San Diego with your family, Kids Free San Diego is a great way to check out many of the museums and attractions in San Diego without spending a ton of money. The event lasts for the month of October and more than 100 businesses, museums, attractions, and restaurants in San Diego participate. Some of the most popular ones are a free whale watching tour, a free trip to LEGOLAND, and free tickets to the world-famous San Diego Zoo.
Visit the Town of Julian
The town of Julian is an old mining town located about an hour’s drive from San Diego. This town is famous for its apple harvest and gorgeous fall foliage, making it the true fall experience. This is a great day trip if you want to explore the area around San Diego and learn about the history of gold mining in the west. You can spend the day walking the streets of this historic town, visit an old gold mine, pick your own apples, or hike nearby trails.
San Diego Beer Week
San Diego has a world-renowned craft beer scene, and every year for 10 days at the beginning of November the city celebrates San Diego’s unique craft beer culture. The festival starts with the kick-off guild fest in downtown San Diego. The event features more than 60 San Diego breweries and a ticket gets you a commemorative beer cup with unlimited pours of more than 100 beers.
Events are held throughout the week at breweries around town, and the week finishes with a beer garden at Torrey Pines. This event features 28 breweries and 14 local chefs. A ticket to the beer garden comes with unlimited food and beer.
San Diego Restaurant Week
For one week at the end of September, San Diego holds its annual restaurant week. This event is perfect for the foodie who wants to eat their way through some of San Diego’s diverse culinary scene. The event includes more than 180 restaurants and each restaurant offers prix-fixe menu options. Three-course dinners range from $20 – $50 per person, and two-course lunches range from $10 – $15 per person. Tickets for San Diego Restaurant Week are not necessary, but reservations are recommended, as restaurant week is a popular affair.
