The San Diego SouthBay Turkey Trot and Food Drive is a family-fun event held on the morning of Thanksgiving. This year’s event will be held on November 22 at Rohr Park in beautiful Bonita, California about 30 minutes south of San Diego.
Runners are encouraged to dress in their Thanksgiving finest, and there will be awards for the best costumes. You can either participate in the 5K (3.1 miles), 10K (6.2 miles), or 15K (9.3 miles) event. Runners can pick up their bib, timing chip, and shirt at Rohr Park on Wednesday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. You can also pick up these items the day of the race between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. All participants must be able to complete the race within 2 hours and 30 minutes.
The Events at the Turkey Troy San Diego
The Turkey Trot 5K event makes a loop around Rohr Park. The course is relatively flat, and the path is wide and made of hard-packed dirt. This event is a great distance for kids, walkers, strollers, and runners. The Turkey Trot 5K race starts at 8:10 a.m. and the winners will be announced at 8:45 a.m.
The 10K event takes runners halfway around Rohr Park and then makes a left onto Otay Lakes Road for about 2 miles. The course then takes a right onto Avenida Del Ray and U-turns back down Otay Lakes Road for a fast, downhill finish to Rohr Park. The 10K race starts at 8:05 a.m. and the winners will be announced at 9:15 a.m.
The 15K event travels halfway around Rohr Park clockwise and then heads up Otay Lakes Road for about 2 miles. The course then takes a right onto Avenida Del Ray, a left onto Rancho Del Rey Parkway, and then a right onto a packed road that takes you through a scenic canyon for 1.5 miles. The course then heads downhill to Rohr Park to continue the rest of the loop around the park. The 15K race starts at 8 a.m. and the winners will be announced at 9:30 a.m.
The Turkey Trot San Deigo race is also a food drive, so make sure to bring non-perishable items with you when you stop by to pick up your bib or on the day of the race.
