While we are known for our clear, sunny days, perfect temperatures, and beautiful weather, we do, on occasion have a rainy day or two. It’s just one of the hazards of living near the ocean—weather happens! If the skies open and the rain starts falling while you’re on your unforgettable San Diego vacation, there’s no reason to worry; there’s plenty of things to do in San Diego when it rains, and we have compiled a list of some of our favorites to make sure you’re occupied while you stay high and dry!
The Whaley House Museum – Rumored to be haunted, this building, built in 1857 was the first two-story building constructed in San Diego. Today, it has been fully restored to its original grand condition and is a fascinating place to spend a few hours getting out of the rain.
The San Diego Air & Space Museum – Yesterday and today blend beautifully in this museum dedicated to air pioneers of yesteryear and tomorrow’s aeronautical masters. Located in Balboa Park, this museum should be on your to-visit list even if it doesn’t rain!
Seaport Village – One of our favorite things to in San Diego when its raining, Seaport Village, is an outdoor mall, but you can dash between raindrops as you visit each and every one of the 50 shops in this mall on the water!
Horton Plaza – This lifestyle center has something for everyone: stores, dining, and even live entertainment. You could spend a few days in this mall and never see it all!
Unique Entertainment Experiences
San Diego Paintball Park – Take a walk on the colorful side and check out this indoor paintball park while avoiding the rain. Nothing brightens a gloomy day more than a good old fashioned paintball battle!
