Things to See in San Diego : Major League Baseball
Based out of San Diego since 1969, the San Diego Padres may have never won a World Series, but they sure have a firm hold on their fan’s hearts! Currently playing in Petco Park in downtown San Diego for regular season games, their spring training games are held in Peoria, Arizona as a part of the Cactus League. The season lasts for six months, from April until October.
National Football League
The San Diego Chargers have been playing for our fair city since 1961, long enough to be considered natives in our books. And while there have been talks of moving to Los Angeles, it has been confirmed they will stay in San Diego throughout the 2016 season and possibly longer, depending on whether or not a new stadium has been approved for them. Currently, they play in the aging Qualcomm Stadium, which has been a part of our landscape nearly as long as the Chargers have been, with opening day occurring in 1967. They have never won a Super Bowl. Preseason starts in August, with regular season starting after Labor Day and ending in January.
American Hockey League
The San Diego Gulls are relatively new to San Diego, with this team starting in the 2015 season. Previously, there have been five teams in total using the Gulls as their name, but this one seems to be the most promising. In 2015, the Norfolk Admirals were bought by the Anaheim Ducks and moved to paradise to begin playing at the Valley View Casino Center. The hockey season begins in October, ending in April.
A true newcomer to the professional sports scene in San Diego, the San Diego Breakers got their start in April of 2016, becoming the 3rd team in the league. They will be calling Torero Stadium home and we are excited to learn all we can about this sport that is so new to America. The season starts in April and ends in July.
