Long summer days spent riding the waves and shooting through tubes in local waterparks have just been improved upon at Aquatica. Not only is this adventurous waterpark filled with rides both thrilling and chilling and adds on many new must do things in San Diego, but the opportunity to view sea turtles and flamingos in a replication of their natural habitat also offers an additional layer of fun to a day already guaranteed to be an exciting one! Offering private cabanas for rent, multiple places to eat, and a gift shop in case you forgot sun protection items (or you just want to bring back a souvenir from a day of fun and laughter), the little extras provided by Aquatica ensure your time spent at this happy place will be a highlight of your San Diego vacation.
While not a large part of the park, the flamingos and sea turtles who make their home here are definitely an integral part of Aquatica. The sea turtles are mostly rescues, ones that have been injured or abandoned by humans that didn’t consider their unique needs before taking them home. The flamingos provide a colorful and unique backdrop to the park. Did you know the reason they stand with one leg tucked under is for warmth? Also, baby flamingos are born with dull gray feathers and the colorful plumage does not appear until they are about 3 years old.
Must Do Things in San Diego – The Rides
Featuring six different rides, the thrill seekers in your family will most likely make it a point to try them all out. The names are unusual, and each offers an exciting extra that will keep your heart pumping. The HooRoo Run has the steepest drop, while the Taumata features the fastest ride. The Walhalla Wave is a family ride, featuring a multiperson raft that flies across 78 feet of waves.
Splashes and Waves
For the less adventurous, or for families with young children, Aquatica has not forgotten your needs—not by a long shot. Kata’s Kookaburra Cove is a kid’s zone filled with safe activities for the youngest members of your family, Walkabout Waters has a watery obstacle course with geysers, hoses, and a 500-pound bucket that fills with water and then dumps the contents on the unsuspecting people below. Finally, Loggerhead Lane is Aquatica’s version of a lazy river for those times you just want to slow things down a bit.
