San Diego Bay Walk

Because the weather is so beautiful here in San Diego, visitors and locals alike try to spend as much time outside as possible enjoying beach days, San Diego activities, hikes through Torrey Pines, and one of our favorite walks, the San Diego Bay Walk. Offering an easy, self-paced tour of the downtown San Diego area, the Bay Walk is one of the best ways to explore a lot of what makes our area so special. A California vacation doesn’t have to be filled with athletic adventures that leave you exhausted at the end of the day; sometimes a simple walk through town can be the highlight of your entire trip.

Lasting as Long as You Want

The walk itself could be completed in about two hours, but you don’t have to walk the entire way if you aren’t physically up for it. There are buses along the way where you can hop on and hop off at points that interest you, and the trolley system offers narrated tours of the area for those that like to get a little history lesson in during their explorations. If you aren’t sure you can do the whole walk on foot, but don’t want to be cooped up inside a vehicle, there’s no reason you can’t take the walk in pieces. Do half one day, another half another day, and start all over on yet another day; the views and San Diego activities along the San Diego Bay Walk are worth seeing more than once. For most visitors, however, the flat and paved walk is an easy one that ends far too soon.

What to Expect Along the San Diego Bay Walk

The self-guided tours begin at the Broadway Pier, leading you along a paved path through paradise! The Santa Fe Railroad Station is a popular attraction that opened its doors in 1915 and is still the 10th busiest Amtrak Station in the United States. Walking along the waterfront, you’ll see the cruise ship terminal and the Star of India, a mast iron ship that was constructed in 1863 and is still in use today; not looking anywhere near her 155 years, the Star is an impressive example of a time when ships were built to last! Navy Pier, a variety of museums, some great shoppes, and tasty restaurants can also be found along the San Diego Bay Walk, proving once again that our city offers something for everyone!
