The Mission San Diego is a perfect name for this classic San Diego breakfast spot. It’s a restaurant on a mission to serve healthy food, to support local artists and to run a business with environmentally-conscious practices. The Mission’s lofty causes and its delicious food make a trip here worth it on so many levels.
The Mission San Diego Menu Diversity
The Mission San Diego serves everything from buttermilk pancakes to modern Chino-Latino dishes.
The restaurant serves eight kinds of pancakes. Some are the staples – naked pancakes and blueberry pancakes. Try something new with the granola banana pancakes, three cakes with toasted grains, almonds and bananas, or the blueberry cornmeal pancakes, three pancakes with blueberries and yellow cornmeal.
We love that The Mission San Diego has a whole section devoted to soy chorizo dishes. A customer favorite is the Papas con Chorizo—rosemary potatoes, grilled jalapeños, black beans, cheese, avocado slice and soy chorizo topped with chipotle cream.
There’s an extensive list of Latino dishes from staple breakfast burritos to unique dishes such as Plato Verde con Huevos, which is sweet corn and green chili tamales and eggs over medium, covered with roasted tomatillo sauce; and Rancheros Verde, fresh flour tortillas with eggs over medium, black beans, cheese and roasted chile verde sauce.
The Mission San Diego has a great list of gluten free items. We appreciate that the menu isn’t a boring one that’s not comparable to the gluten dishes. Mission offers gluten-free French toast and croissants, something we rarely see on menus.
For lunch, there’s tamales, nachos, burritos, soups, sandwiches, wraps and quesadillas. Stay with the classics and order a steak quesadilla or try something new from the Chino-Latino menu such as the Indo Chine Happiness Bowl, a brown rice bowl with zucchini, squash, shiitake mushrooms, topped with ginger sesame chicken, beef or shrimp with a light drizzle of peanut sauce and orange chili zest.
The Mission bakes its bread fresh every day and uses it in its dishes. That’s why the French toast tastes so good. They bake rosemary, cinnamon and brown breads. The cinnamon and rosemary breads are also available gluten free.
