Beach Wheelchairs for Your Trip to San Diego California
There are free manual or power beach wheelchairs available at seven San Diego beaches when you visit San Diego: Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Coronado Beach, Silver Strand State Beach, Imperial Beach, La Jolla Shores and Oceanside Harbor Beach. Power beach wheelchairs are self-propelled and designed for soft sands.
There are two free floating beach chairs at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. The chairs are available seven days a week on a first-come, first-served basis at the lifeguard tower.
Sand Access Mats
To make getting to the water easier on your trip to San Diego, sand access mats are available at Imperial Beach, Cardiff State Beach and Moonlight Beach. Sand is swept off the mats daily. They’re held in place by large spikes.
Touring San Diego via boat, trolley or bus is not only an accessible way to see the sites, it’s a relaxing way to get a lot of attractions in in one day. For the history buffs, try Old Town Trolley tours. It’s a two-hour, fully-narrated trip. There are three trolleys with wheelchair lifts and spaces for two wheelchairs each.
Seal Tours offer daily, 90-minute land and water tours that start in downtown San Diego. You’ll get fantastic views of the city from the waters of Big Bay and Mission Bay, and you may even spot some whales or dolphins. Manual lift boarding is available from Seaport Village.
Hornblower Cruises has a fleet of seven yachts that offer narrated tours of San Diego from the water. Three of the boats, the Lord Hornblower, Adventure Hornblower and Inspiration Hornblower, have accessible ramps.
