Best Local Quick Eats in San Diego

Part of the fun in vacationing is finding the hidden away places where the locals eat, drink, and play. You can usually count on the fact that the food will be great, the drinks will be inexpensive, and the fun will never end. When visiting San Diego, the locals know the spots where the tourists usually aren’t, meaning the lines will be shorter as well, and fortunately for our guests, we love to share! Here’s our list of the best local (and quick) eats in the area.

The Smoking Goat Restaurant, 3408 30th Street

French bistro meets country kitchen in this chic and upscale restaurant that specializes in three-course meals made with the freshest ingredients San Diego has to offer. The Smoking Goat features an eclectic menu that offers everything from crispy Spanish octopus to Scottish salmon and a goat cheesecake that will have you rethinking how a cheesecake should be made. Also offering an extensive wine menu, we suggest taking advantage of a ride share service and sampling as many different grapes as you dare!

Urban Solace, 3823 30th Street

If you stay in San Diego long enough, you will soon realize how much we appreciate farm fresh and organic foods such as the ones offered at Urban Solace. Featuring a sophisticated innovation of the standard comfort foods, your palate will be happy upon tasting their Not Your Mama’s Meatloaf made with lamb and pork, figs, almonds, sweet potato mash and red wine sauce. The craft beers offered here will please even the most finicky of beer connoisseurs, and their Black Velvet Cake will have you pleading for mercy; it’s that good!

Sushi Ota, 4529 Mission Bay Drive

One of our favorite vacationing activities is sampling the sushi in the area we are visiting and comparing it with that we get from Sushi Ota every week; no matter where we go, they always pale in comparison. Sushi Ota is chef-owned and offers the most authentic Japanese experience that can be found—all prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Try the sea urchin (Uni) and experience a new taste sensation you will never forget!

Prado, 1549 El Prado

Your stay in San Diego will not be complete without a visit to Balboa Park and this California-style hacienda. Serving a mixture of magical meals, including Lobster Bucatini, Prado Paella, and a Summer Garden Risotto for the vegetarians in your group, Prado has been a San Diego tradition for more than a few minutes. Don’t forget to try their margaritas; Jalisco’s Nectar is our favorite!
