One of the greatest benefits of being in southern California is the plentiful amount of sunshine that we get to experience throughout the year, and this means locally we can raise fresh fruits and vegetables better than anywhere else! San Diego is home to a number of amazing farmers’ markets held throughout the year, and the next time you’re in the San Diego area, check out these cheap things to do in San Diego:
Pacific Beach Farmers’ Market
Held every Tuesday from 2 PM to 7 PM is the Pacific Beach Farmers’ Market, home to some of the freshest finds in all of San Diego! Located on Bayard Street between Garnet & Grand, the Pacific Beach Farmers’ Market features a number of vendors with fresh fruits, veggies, herbs, handcrafted artisan works, and so much more! One of the best parts about this market in particular is “Market Money,” which is perfect for those who don’t have cash or are looking for the perfect gift for a family member or friend. All you need to do is stop by the information booth and swipe your debit or credit card to purchase Market Money—it doesn’t expire!
North Park Thursday Market
The North Park Thursday Market is located right on North Park Way between 30th Street and Utah Street and is available rain or shine year-round from 3 PM to 7 PM. In addition to the number of fresh fruit and vegetable vendors available, what help separates the North Park Thursday Market is that there are a number of gift and home décor vendors on site as well! The North Park Thursday Market also features “Market Match,” which allows you to receive up to $10 (per day) in matched EBT funds to purchase additional farm-fresh fruits or veggies. Farmer’s Markets are fun, cheap things to do in San Diego, and certainly pays to treat yourself well at North Park!
Little Italy Mercato Famers’ Market
Last but not least is the Little Italy Mercato Farmers’ Market, located every Saturday from 8 AM to 2 PM at legendary Little Italy Mercato (on Date St. from Front St. to west of Kettner Blvd.). Whether it be rain or shine, Little Italy Mercato Farmers’ Market features well over 175 different and certified farmers and vendors to bring you some of the freshest fruits, veggies, locally made jams, and so much more!
