Every 4th of July, the city of San Diego celebrates Independence in style by hosting an enormous and spectacular music and fireworks display called the Big Bay Boom. Known as one of the largest annual choreographed fireworks shows in the United States, Big Bay Boom draws approximately half a million people to the shores of San Diego Bay.
Here, you can watch sparkling fireworks of all colors, lighting up the night sky from four barge locations: Shelter Island, Harbor Island, North Embarcadero, and South Embarcadero. The light show is set to a classic patriotic soundtrack, which is played over local radio stations THE MIGHTY 1090 AM and MAX FM 105.7.
The event is entirely free, making it a popular event for locals and tourists of all ages. Be sure to catch the fireworks from Shelter Island, Harbor Island, North Embarcadero, the Marina District, Seaport Village, South embarcadero, or Coronado Ferry Landing.
If at all possible, we recommend avoiding car travel as much as you can, as the crowd around the bay can become extremely immense and will make driving difficult. However, if you must drive, you can get around using the free parking lots and shuttle service provided by the Port of San Diego, which will take you to Harbor Island and Shelter Island
Fireworks are lit at 9:00pm on the night of July 4th; try to arrive early enough to secure a nice viewing spot. You won’t want to miss this dazzling display over the pristine waters of San Diego Bay!
