If you only have three days in San Diego, we recommend spending your time in places with the most centralized sites. You’ll have access to 16 museums plus beautiful gardens in historic Balboa Park. Spend an entire day exploring the beaches, restaurants and historic buildings of Coronado Island. On your last day, check off the world-famous SeaWorld and afterwards have some fun at historic Belmont Park. Read below to read our full guide on San Diego attractions and activities for your trip.
Day 1: Coronado Island
Coronado Island offers a wonderful mix of history and culture in a stunning setting. This is the home of the Hotel Del Coronado. Built in 1888, it’s welcomed many famous people, including Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. The 1958 Marilyn Monroe film “Some Like It Hot” was filmed here.
At Coronado Central Beach, you’ll find a 1.5-mile wide stretch of flat sand perfect for skim boarding, picnicking and lounging. Visit thoroughfare Orange Avenue for shops and restaurants. The Coronado Farmer’s Market is open on Tuesdays, so don’t miss the chance to taste fresh fruits and vegetables, and local artisan foods in an open-air market.
Day 2: San Diego Attractions and Activities at Balboa Park
Balboa Park is the nation’s largest urban cultural park and of the most popular San Diego attractions and activities. This National Historic Landmark, named for Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa, includes 16 science, art and history museums plus free gardens. Here you’ll find the San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego History Museum, Japanese Friendship Garden and the Old Globe Theatre, a replica of the London theater where Shakespeare staged his plays.
Day 3: SeaWorld and Belmont Park
We love the pairing of SeaWorld and Belmont Park because besides their proximity, together they offer a full day of adventure. At SeaWorld, you can swim with dolphins, pet penguins and beluga whales, and of course watch the killer whale shows that have made SeaWorld famous. At Belmont Park, enjoy a classic amusement park with rides, laser tag, a zipline and more. Don’t miss a chance to ride the fully restored, 1925-built Giant Dipper Roller Coast. You’ll also have access to a ton of restaurants right on the waterfront.
