Imperial Beach was the site of the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition for 32 years, from 1980 to 2011.
Summer Shakespeare Festival
From June to September, The Old Globe hosts its Summer Shakespeare Festival. This Tony Award-winning theater is a must for any theater fan. Built in 1935, the Old Globe is modeled off the original Old Globe in London, where Shakespeare staged his plays. San Diego’s version has produced more than 20 shows that have gone on to play on and off Broadway. Its productions have won 13 Tony Awards.
San Diego Pride
If you’ve ever been to a pride parade, you’ve probably heard that San Diego has one of the best San Diego festivals in the nation. This July festival celebrates the LGBTQ community, self-love and acceptance. There’s dancing, music, vendors, a rally, and of course, the parade. In 2018, the San Diego Pride Parade was attended by an estimated 300,000 people. It’s kind of a big deal.
The San Diego County Fair is One of the Best Events in San Diego CA
This fair runs from May to July at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and was attended by more than 1.5 million people in 2018. There’s live music, comedy shows, vendors, tons of delicious, greasy fair food, rides and a kids’ zone.
