It’s All About the Animals
Walk along the trails and view the foundation of the old gunpowder building that was once a thriving factory and is the basis of our street name as you enjoy another beautiful day in sunny San Diego. Visit the turtles in our expanded Turtle Lagoon and take part in the shark and ray experience. Step into our aviary and walk with the birds who make their homes here, or learn everything there is to know about eagles when you explore Eagle Mesa. And finally, Raptor Row is where injured or disabled birds of prey make their home, as it is too dangerous for them to be released back in the wild. This is your chance to get an up close and personal glimpse of these magnificent creatures in a way you would never be able to out in nature.
Events and activities
The San Diego discovery center also offers the opportunity to get even closer to the wildlife that reside here. It costs a little more, but where else are you going to be able to hand feed a bat ray, meet an owl, hawk, and falcon, or feed an endangered green sea turtle? All these experiences, plus getting to meet two reptiles and learn about their care and feeding, can be experienced for an extra $50 per group, not per person, and since this a nonprofit organization, you can rest assured your money will go to the worthy cause of taking care of the mighty beasts, sea creatures, and birds that make their home here.
