A Family-Friendly Museum for All Ages
The goal of the New Children’s Museum is to foster creativity, imagination, and critical thinking in children and their families through the use of contemporary art. In particular, the museum is renowned for its art installations, which are often completely unique and take up the size of an entire room, functioning as an artistic playground.
At this museum, children and families can take part in art workshops and camps, attend themed and age-appropriate events, make art in one of the several art studios on-site, and go inside of interactive art installations like Sketch Aquarium, where you can design your own sea creature and see it come alive on the walls, or make new creations from “junk” in MAKE/SHIFT. Other art installations range from labyrinth-like obstacle rooms that children can explore to rooms with made to replicate kitchen sinks with giant sculptures of food. Race cars through Desert Derby, see the Rain House, read books in the Stacked Stories room, and more!
The New Children’s Museum is located kitty-corner to the Children’s Park and the San Diego Convention Center, and is close to popular spots like the Gaslamp Quarter and Seaport Village, making it easy to find during your time in the city.
The museum is open daily from 9:30am until 4:00pm, with shortened hours on Sundays from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Admission is priced at $6.50 for military personnel with ID, $8.50 for seniors sixty-five years and older, and $13.00 each for adults and children ages one year and older. Admission is free for members and children under one year old. Active military members have free admission from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
