Our Favorite New Flavors in San Diego

Here are some of our favorite new flavors we’ve discovered here in San Diego this year:
Salmon Tartare Tacos at Rustic Root
The Rustic Root is a classy, spacious bar with a vibrant style. There are plants stacked to the ceiling along with the bottles behind the bar, and we love the atmosphere it puts out. The whole menu is a dream, but the best thing on the menu right now is the Salmon Tartare Tacos, which come with salmon, avocado, sriracha aioli, seaweed salad, and tobiko. Try a Spanish Sunrise cocktail if you’re in the mood for a tasty drink to go with it. This cocktail is made with Cazadores Blanco, pressed lime, fresh lavender, and tonic.
Iced Shellfish Platter at Water Grill
Water Grill San Diego is one of our favorite restaurants here in town, and for good reason—their seafood is unparalleled! Festive lights and a warm atmosphere combined with a stellar menu make this an unforgettable dining experience. If you get the Iced Shellfish Platter (meant to be shared with 1-2 or 3-4 people) you’ll get a various assortment of everything from Peruvian Bay Scallops to Wild Dungeness Crab to Large Channel Islands Red Sea Urchin. The miso soup here is also amazing, and it’s a great appetizer for this dish.
Country Pork Terrine at Juniper & Ivy
The interior of Juniper & Ivy is brightly colored and crisp, which is exactly what their menu is like as well. Take a look at the menu and you’ll see what we mean! Our favorite right now is the Country Pork Terrine, served with lavender honey and beet mustard. But the entire menu is full of showstoppers. Try the Baja Yellowtail with shark sauce, or the Yodel coconut cake made with freeze-dried pineapple and frozen lime ice cream! And if you’re looking for a drink, make sure to try the Professor Plum Behind the Bar, made with Toki Whisky, Yuzu Sake, plum shrub, lemon, and egg white.
