Each June since 1998, marathon and half-marathon runners flock to sunny and beautiful San Diego to rock out as they run in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. Runners raise millions of dollars for charity each year by competing, and have a blast weaving their way through Balboa Park, Old Town, Mission Bay, and downtown San Diego, listening to live music along the way and getting cheered on by tons of screaming fans! The event weekend includes a Health & Fitness Expo, an awesome finisher medal, and a post-race headliner concert at the finish line featuring some of the biggest stars in the music industry.
Information on the Race
Runners can sign up for the half-marathon, full-marathon, 2-person half-marathon relay, or the 5k, with prices ranging from $145 to $195. Racers of all ages compete in this epic running event, from 12 year-olds to people who are over 80 years old! It is important to note that for safety reasons, kids aged 12 to 17 are only allowed to compete in the half-marathons, while those who are 18 and older can choose either marathon option. Participants are given a 7-hour time limit in which to complete the marathon, with medical stations set up throughout the race course and shuttles that pick up racers who fall behind.
If you’re coming to watch someone you know run in the race, be sure that you know their projected finish time and discuss a post-race reunion plan before the race. You can also use public transportation, such as the San Diego Trolley, to watch the race, as the event takes place in the heart of the city.
