Row, Row, Row Your Boat at the San Diego Crew Classic!

Rowing in San Diego Crew Classic
First formed in 1973 by two members of the San Diego rowing club scene, the San Diego Crew Classic is a two-day weekend West Coast regatta tournament dedicated to teams of four and eight rowers (approximately 4,000 people total) competing in over 100 races.

The competition takes place on Crown Point Shores in Mission Bay Park, in late March or early April a time of year, when water conditions are most ideal and spectators can watch the fast-paced races from the park’s sunny, green lawns.

On the Friday before the competition, a free preview day is held in the Beer Garden, which features award-winning local craft beers and opens at 1:00pm. During the preview day, spectators can watch rowing crews practice on the water or walk around the many vendors’ booths. There is also a pasta dinner held that night for everyone, with tickets available for sale.

Races start at 7:30am on each morning of the competition, concluding at 6:30pm on Saturday evening and 3:00pm on Sunday evening. Races take off within 10 minutes or less, ensuring that spectators and rowers alike will find the Crew Classic to be an action-packed event.

Ready to Row? (Or Watch Someone You Know?)

Rowers of all ages and skill levels can enter the San Diego Crew Classic, and often do! The tournament serves as a venue for rowing programs on the junior, high school, collegiate, master, and Olympic levels, though rowing itself was established as a collegiate sport and continues to be dominated by college participants.

Entry fees for teams include $400.00 for teams of four and $404.00 for teams of eight. Spectators can watch the events for as little as $12.00 for adults and $5.00 for children!
