The San Diego Latino Film Festival is an 11-day celebration of Latino cinema, arts and culture. The film festival will celebrate its 26th year in 2019. It’s hosted by nonprofit Media Arts Center San Diego, which offers media camps for underserved youth and teens. In 2019, the festival will be March 14-24.
The San Diego film festival started as a student film festival (Cine Estudantil) for local Latino students. Over its 26-year history, the festival has been attended by more than 325,000 people and has featured more than over 3,880 films and videos from across Latin America and the U.S.
Media Arts San Diego
The nonprofit host of the San Diego Latino Film Festival celebrates minority film creators from all backgrounds. In addition to offering camps to youth and teens, Media Arts San Diego showcases the work of LGBTQ+, Jewish-Latino and women filmmakers.
Sabor Latino Food, Beer & Wine Fest
Besides the films, the best part of this San Diego film festival may be the Sabor Latino Food, Beer & Wine Fest. The festival features food tastings from celebrated Latino chefs and beer and wine tastings provided by more than 20 of the best craft breweries and wineries from San Diego and Baja California. All proceeds benefit the Media Art Center San Diego’s youth education and outreach programs.
