San Diego is a lovely city filled with an assortment of activities and experiences waiting to be had. If you are a nature lover, there are a number of beautiful parks in San Diego that you should definitely consider visiting. The following is our San Diego park guide, showcasing some of our favorites. Consider checking them out during your visit.

The Largest San Diego Park: Balboa Park

At 1,200 acres, Balboa Park is the most expansive and interesting San Diego park you can find. Here you get to experience everything from the San Diego Zoo to the Botanical Building. Entry into the park is free. However, you may want to bring some cash with you just in case you want to experience everything that Balboa Park has to offer. One of the major features of Balboa Park is the Spanish Renaissance-inspired architecture that is found throughout many of the buildings in the park. If you love nature, you would definitely love the Botanical Building, which is home to a variety of plant species as well as a beautiful Japanese garden. Don’t forget to stop by several museums that are located within the park. This is one park in San Diego that offers a comprehensive experience that everyone will enjoy.

Kate Sessions Park

If you want to experience the spectacular views of a beautiful sunset and San Diego’s downtown while being surrounded by nature, Kate Sessions Park is the place to be. At 74 acres, the park is unique in that it has two areas. There is the well-maintained grassy area that is ideal for lounging, enjoying the playground, picnicking, and other outdoor activities. Then, there is the natural terrain that is ideal for hiking and exploring. At Kate Sessions Park, you get two park experiences in one.

Mission Trails Regional Park

At a massive 7,220 acres, Mission Trails Regional Park offers both natural and developed park areas to enjoy. It is centrally located just 8 miles northeast of San Diego, and it is not only one of the premier parks in San Diego, but it is also one of the largest urban parks in the United States! With a park of this size, you choose your experience. There are over 60 trails for walking, hiking, and biking, and you can partake in a nature walk if so desired. There is a campground at Kumeyaay Lake and boating on Lake Murray. Make sure to stop by the state-of-the-art Visitor Center to learn more about this gem of a park.
