Ask anyone what their favorite holiday is and we guarantee you will find quite who love Halloween. The fall season is best remembered whenever you have an exciting and memorable vacation getaway planned around Halloween. This spooky holiday is best enjoyed right here in Southern California, specifically in San Diego. Our coastal city is known for a variety of fun events and attractions. Halloween offers even more fun than usual. Take a look at some exciting events and activities you can enjoy when you visit around Halloween in San Diego:

SeaWorld Spooktacular

There is no better combination than loveable sea animals and the spooky thrills of Halloween. You can enjoy both at the same time when you visit SeaWorld during one of their Spooktacular events happening in the month of October. Each Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM SeaWorld will have plenty of exciting activities including costumes, candy, Sesame Street friends, and a ton of spooky surprises. This all-ages event is perfect for the whole family to show up and enjoy. Young children can go trick or treating along the decorated Halloween trail. Each evening ends with an exciting Halloween dance party. The fun has already started at SeaWorld Spooktacular and runs until October 31st so make sure to visit soon. Entry is free with any admission into the SeaWorld park.

LEGOLAND Brick or Treat

Another fun and exciting all-ages event taking place this Halloween is the Brick or Treat located at LEGOLAND. As if you needed another reason to visit LEGOLAND during your stay, this fun event brings out all the spooky stops for your family to enjoy. Brick or Treat has the park stay open later on each Saturday for the month of October. There will also be live entertainment, trick or treating, Halloween décor, and so much more. Seasonal foods and drinks will also be available for purchase. Spooky thrills are perfect for children of all ages so make sure to not miss out on LEGOLAND Brick or Treat this year!

Howl O Ween Mutt Run

San Diego’s perfect climate makes it an ideal spot for a variety of running events such as 5Ks held here throughout the year. One exciting race to join in on takes place this Halloween season with the 8th Annual Howl O Ween Mutt Run. This race is a 1K, 5K, and walking race so all participants can feel comfortable with the race of their choosing. All proceeds from the race will be donated to local charities in support of rescue dogs. Additional activities taking place at Howl O Ween Mutt Run also include a beer garden, dog costume contest, raffle baskets, prizes, and many more. Don’t miss out on this year’s Howl O Ween Mutt Run and don’t forget to bring your loveable dog too!

Hit the Beach

As mentioned, San Diego features some beautiful weather during most times of the year and that includes around the Halloween holiday. Take advantage of the weather and visit one of the local beaches for some downtime. Our beaches are beautiful and always clean. You will notice many locals and visitors hanging out at the beach for a good time. The fall season is a quieter travel season in San Diego too so you will notice the beaches will be less crowded than the summer. If beach time sounds like a great time, you are in luck around Halloween!

SoCal Taco Fest 2021

If you visit San Diego a week before Halloween, you will find one event we are looking forward to the most: the SoCal Taco Fest 2021. This local festival is all things tacos and features many different local vendors who are serving up some of their delicious tacos. You will have plenty of options to choose from including fresh seafood tacos! The SoCal Taco Fest 2021 will take place on Saturday October 23rd from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Visit La Jolla

Another great activity that is perfect to do during the slower travel season of fall is making the short drive over to La Jolla. This San Diego community is home to the famous La Jolla Cove, a beautiful cove where plenty of seals and sea lions can be seen basking in the sun. La Jolla also features a variety of beautiful beaches to hang out at. Try your hand at surfing or go snorkeling in the clear water. There is no shortage of fun right here in San Diego and La Jolla!

San Diego is a fantastic vacation destination all year long, and Halloween is no exception! From San Diego’s enviable fall weather to the city’s fun and exciting fall events, your vacation is brimming with opportunities for Halloween thrills. Read on to learn more about the top reasons to spend Halloween in San Diego!

The Weather

While other states around the country are beginning to feel the brisk chill of fall weather, sunny San Diego experiences a much milder fall, allowing you to enjoy the beach and the sights of the city in comfort. You can even plan a beach day, though the water will be a bit cooler than in the summer!

Family-Friendly San Diego Halloween Events

For families with young children or who are just looking for something Halloween-related and fun to do, there are a variety of family-friendly San Diego Halloween events. The San Diego Botanic Garden Family Fall Festival allows visitors to paint pumpkins, do Halloween crafts, participate in a costume contest, and pet animals at the petting zoo. Adults are not allowed to wear costumes at this event. Other cool events in the area include the Haunted Garden Tour & Family Fair at Mission Hills Nursery, the Pumpkin Express train at Pacific Southwest Railway Museum, and Balboa Park Halloween Family Day (which is different from Balboa Park’s Haunted Trail).

Halloween in the Gaslamp District

The Gaslamp District celebrates Halloween with a variety of nightlife events and their famous Haunted Hotel, where one of the district’s historic buildings swarms with the living dead and other monsters of the night. Enjoy events on the weekend leading up to Halloween, such as the San Diego Zombie Crawl to clubs and restaurants, Vin de Syrah’s Sleepy Hollow Halloween, and the block party called the Monster Bash. On the night of Halloween, there’s a Saints & Sinners party at Tin Roof!

Haunted Museums and More

San Diego’s most famous museums gear up for the spookiest season of the year by putting a creepy face on historic buildings and ramping up the ghost stories. Halloween at the Whaley House includes extended hours, Past & Presence Ghost Tours, and ghost hunts held after-hours. The Davis-Horton House, already believed to be haunted no matter what season, showcases its paranormal findings in-house. The Star of India ship hosts ghost stories told by storytellers based on the ship’s seafaring past. And the Scream Zone, San Diego’s largest (and reportedly the scariest) Halloween attraction has three parts in one setting: The Haunted Hayride, the House of Horror, and KarnEvil.

Iconic Attractions Transform for Halloween

From Birch Aquarium’s Sea Monster Mash to the Haunted Trail of Balboa Park, San Diego’s most recognizable and renowned spots don a spookier exterior to add a special touch to your Halloween in the city. LEGOLAND hosts Brick-or-Treat nights and extended park hours. SeaWorld holds a Halloween Spooktacular that has mermaids. And Belmont Park turns into Boomont Park Fall Festival and Haunt, with trick-or-treating, a pumpkin patch, and a creepy rollercoaster. The fun never ends!
