San Diego is one of the premier summer vacation destinations in all of the United States, and with our incredible beaches and attractions, it’s easy to understand why! We are also incredibly popular in the summer because we truly know how to celebrate the birthday of America better than anyone else in Southern California! If you’re planning enjoying a San Diego 4th of July holiday, here are a few of the fun events and amazing firework shows we have planned this year:

Ocean Beach

There are few better ways to celebrate the San Diego 4th of July than by spending the day relaxing on the beach and spending the night watching a beautiful fireworks celebration, and at Ocean Beach you can do just that! You can spend the day swimming on the ocean, playing volleyball on the beach, or perusing one of the many shops right nearby on Newport Avenue and cap it all off with one of the best fireworks celebrations in all of San Diego. The fireworks spectacular begins at approximately 9 PM and takes place right off of the legendary Ocean Beach Pier, so why not make it a day of fun and spending it on Ocean Beach!

Coronado Island

San Diego’s legendary vacation hotspot is no stranger to having fun, and the 4th of July is certainly no exception. There will be a number of fun and patriotic events taking place on the island all throughout the day, including an Independence Day parade, an Art in the Park festival, and more! All of this is capped off with an amazing fireworks display over the picturesque Glorietta Bay, where fireworks will be shot off a barge starting at roughly 9 PM. This is one fireworks show that needs to be seen to be believed!

San Diego 4th of July Big Bay Boom

We saved the biggest for last—and we mean it! The Big Bay Boom is Southern California’s largest 4th of July fireworks show and promises to be bigger and better than ever this year. Starting at approximately 9 PM, four large barges in the San Diego Bay will begin to light up the San Diego sky in a way that will make your jaw drop and be proud to be an American! There’s only one word that could possibly describe this fireworks show: spectacular. There are a number of places to pull up a lawn chair and enjoy the show, including: Shelter Island, Harbor Island, North Embarcadero, the Marina District, Coronado Ferry Landing, and more!

If you’re planning to stay in the San Diego area to enjoy one of our phenomenal fireworks shows, why not make sure to have a phenomenal rental property to stay at as well? Luckily for you, 710 Beach Rentals is here to help! 710 Beach Rentals offers premier rental properties all throughout the San Diego area, and we’ll be sure to find one that is perfect for your family’s next unforgettable vacation! In San Diego, you will find one of the best vacation destinations in the world. It has everything you could ever want in a vacation destination, from perfect weather year-round to a vibrant community and culture. But the main thing that makes it such a great place to visit is the endless opportunities for fun and unique activities that the city provides. This is true for any group who visits, but most of all families. Below are some of the most popular family friendly activities in San Diego this weekend.

Visit the Beach

This one should go without saying, but it is so fundamental to any San Diego vacation, so we have to mention it. The city is home to some of the best beaches on the West Coast. For a beach that provides great energy, crowds, and close dining options, Mission Beach or Pacific Beach could be the place for you. For something a bit more secluded, boasting the best natural beauty in the area, you can visit a beach like Sunset Cliffs near Ocean Beach. If you are looking for something quiet that is sure to provide calm waters so the little children can swim, think about visiting Mission Bay.

Fun Things to Do In San Diego at Belmont Park

In Mission Beach, you will find one of the most charming amusement parks that you will find anywhere. At the heart of the park is the Giant Dipper, one of the oldest wooden roller coasters in the country. Although it’s been around for a long time, the excitement and fun of this ride has definitely not gone out of style. There are also many other rides, carnival-style games, laser tag, an arcade, shops, and great food. All of these options ensure this is the perfect place to spend the day for everyone in the family. While some of the more exhilarating rides like the Giant Dipper or the Beach Blaster are probably only suitable for children 5 and up, there are plenty of easier rides that will provide a fun experience for even the youngest children.

The San Diego Zoo

This is one of the most famous zoos in the world, and for good reason. Here, you will find one of the greatest collections of animals, some of the most beautiful natural landscape, and more activities than you will find in almost any other zoo. Among the most exciting things happening here are the one of a kind animal shows, opportunities to feed animals, pet animals, and of course, plenty more. This is sure to be the kids’ favorite San Diego activities this weekend, and that is saying something!

Attempting to create a full list of the amazing activities for the whole family in San Diego is an impossible task; the city simply offers too many opportunities to count. Contact us today to learn more about fun things to do in San Diego and to book one of our vacation rentals!

San Diego Zoo ExhibitsIf you have been wanting to visit San Diego, now is the perfect time to plan your trip. While you’re here, make sure to check out the San Diego Zoo Exhibits. The San Diego Zoo is one of the best in the country, and when you visit, you’ll quickly see why! Even better, during October, all children 11 and younger receive free admission!

San Diego Zoo Exhibits You Must Visit

The San Diego Zoo has a lot of amazing exhibits. While we can’t cover them all, here is a list of the exhibits you must visit during your time in San Diego.

Elephant Odyssey

Elephant Odyssey is a 2.5-acre elephant habitat that opened in 2009. This habitat is home to three African and four Asian elephants. Out of the seven total elephants, six are female and only one is male. The previous elephant habitat was about three times smaller. Before reaching the elephants, take time to explore the beginning of the exhibit, the Fossil Portal. Here you can view an artificial tar pit that drains to reveal man-made Pleistocene-era bones.

Continuing on your way to view the elephants, you will pass two separate exhibits. Here you can see African lions and two-toed sloths. Next up is the Elephant Care Center. This center is where you can view zookeepers giving routine care to elephants. After viewing everything Elephant Odyssey has to offer, take the kids to the playground or grab a bite to eat before heading out to the next exhibit.

Panda Trek

The San Diego Zoo is only one of four zoos in the United States to house the awe-inspiring giant panda. Since the exhibit’s opening, six giant panda cubs have been born at the Zoo. Five out of the six cubs born at the Zoo went back to China to enhance breeding habits in their natural habitats. Born in 2012, Xiao Liwu, meaning “little gift,” still resides in San Diego. Don’t worry! Just because the cubs no longer live in San Diego doesn’t mean you can’t see them! The Zoo has put together a web-based exhibit for guests to view these special pandas. Check out the Zoo’s panda cam to see what the three resident pandas are up to today! You might catch them playing, sleeping, or even eating bamboo!

Polar Bear Plunge

The polar bear plunge exhibit has housed species representing the Arctic since 1996. Currently the exhibit homes over 30 Arctic-native species. Kalluk, Chinook, and Tatqiq, the three polar bears, are only the main attraction. In their impressive 130,000-gallon tank, guests can view the polar bears at play under water. Feel free to check in on Kalluk, Chinook, and Tatqiq and see what they are up to today using the polar bear cam. Reindeer (caribou), arctic foxes, maned wolves, mountain lions, and Grevy’s zebras also live here in their designated habitats.

Ituri Forest

This exhibit is one you definitely do not want to miss. Modeled after the real Ituri Forest in Africa, this display has featured a multitude of different animals since 1999. Here you can find animals who originated from the rain forests of Central Africa such as hippos, tilapia, emerald starlings, and spotted-necked otters.

Make a trip! All our properties are less than a 30-minute drive from the Zoo. To be closest to the Zoo, we recommend staying in one of our Mission Beach or Ocean Beach homes.

San Diego Chargers ScheduleSitting in the stands, staring down the 50-yard line, a player picks up a fumbled ball from the opposing team and sprints toward the end zone. Dodging the rivals, the player makes it and scores. Touchdown Chargers! The crowd goes wild and you find yourself cheering too. Throughout the game you hear cheers of defense, bolt up, and charge. At this moment you realize you can’t find the electric energy of Chargers fans anywhere other than San Diego, California. If you’re a football fan and are planning to come to San Diego this fall, be sure to check out the San Diego Chargers schedule below and coordinate your stay with one of their home games!

History of the San Diego Chargers

Tracing team history all the way back to 1959, Barron Hilton was the man who formed the AFL (American Football League), which included the wonderful Chargers. At first, the Chargers hailed from Los Angeles, California, approximately a two and a half hour drive. The Chargers, or The Bolts, as fans like to call them, moved to San Diego in 1961 where they played nine more years in the AFL reaching the AFL playoffs five times and the AFL Championship four times.

Before the 1970 season, the AFL and NFL (National Football League) merged where the Chargers made seven trips to the playoffs, three trips to the AFC Championships, and even a trip to Super Bowl XXIX where they fell to the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chargers currently have six Pro Football Hall of Fame players and one coach including Lance Alworth, Dan Frouts, Sid Gillman, Charlie Joiner, Ron Mix, Kellen Winslow, and Fred Dean. They also boast 36 members in the Chargers Hall of Fame.

San Diego Chargers Schedule

There is no better time to visit San Diego than during the 2015 NFL football season. After week one, the Chargers led the NFL in total yards and passing yards with 483 yards of offense and 388 yards passing. Following close behind are a handful of teams they have yet to play this season. Other than the Denver Broncos, the San Diego Chargers are the only team to hold the top position in two of the six statistics from week one.
