905 J St, San Diego, CA 92101
Monday-Friday: 6:30AM to 6:00PM Saturday-Sunday: 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Swing by Copa Vida in the Gaslamp Quarter to kick off a day of exploring the city streets of San Diego, nearby Seaport Village, or Coronado Island! Walk into the cafe and the first thing you’ll notice is the bright, open space and hip, minimalist aesthetic. It’s the kind of place where you could spend hours studying or reading a book with a cup of coffee or meet a friend for conversation-filled brunch. At Copa Vida, the owners are experts in coffee and tea, hold certifications of excellence from renowned coffee producers, and are members of the Specialty Coffee Association of America. In addition to that, you’ll find a menu of breakfast items, a few salads, tomato basil soup, and a lineup of breakfast burritos that are available on the weekend only! The Croque Madame is a popular choice, and they have several inventions served on toast, including a classic version of Avocado Toast, a summer version with goat cheese, as well as a Salmon Toast and a dairy-free almond butter and jam toast. There’s also a small patio if you want to take in the atmosphere of city-life and watch the bustle of the streets!
Olive Café (Mission Beach)
805 Santa Clara Pl, San Diego, CA 92109-7223
7 AM to 4 PM Daily
Housed in what was once two single-family homes, Olive Cafe retains that quaint beach-cottage vibe, complete with a brick fireplace in the entry way. Cozy ambiance gives this café a comfortable feel, as if you’re dining at a friend’s home! They offer a selection of breakfast items, like pancakes, scrambles, and bowls, as well as a large assortment of salads, soups, flatbreads, wraps, and sandwiches. Try specialties like Dad’s Favorite Pancakes, made with raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and chocolate chips, topped with banana slices and powdered sugar. Or try something a little more locally influenced, like the Chilaquiles—corn tortilla chips, avocado, jack and cheddar cheese, green pepper and onion sautéed in your choice of a hot, medium, or mild red sauce, topped with two scrambled eggs and a dollop of sour cream. Whichever you choose, you can’t go wrong—and if you take one of their smoothies, coffees, or milkshakes to-go, it’s within walking distance to beach!
