Author 09-15-2016

The popularity of the app Pokémon Go is absolutely sweeping through the nation! Players everywhere are immersed in the game, where the virtual world interacts with real life and you can literally “catch ‘em all!” Pokémon Go has not only become a passionate pastime for those nostalgic about the original television series or various games, but has also spread to those new to the idea of Pokémon.

Quickly emerging as the best place in the country for Pokémon Go is the delightful beach city of San Diego. The combination of locals and tourists make for an exciting scene for Pokémon Go, as there is a Pokéstop or a Gym around nearly every corner! Different Pokémon appear in different places, and it appears as though San Diego has a higher concentration of rare Pokémon than other cities. Expect to find your fair share of Cubones, Machops, Clefairys, Ryhorns, Sandshrews, and Growlithes!

Downtown San Diego

Pokéstops and Gyms are more common in areas with lots of people, so it’s no surprise that the downtown area of San Diego offers a lot to the Pokémon Go player! One of the most fun Gyms to find is the one at home plate in Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres baseball team. Other great downtown Pokémon Go locations include the San Diego International Airport and the San Diego Convention Center.

Coronado Bay

Coronado Bay is consistently considered one of the most beautiful beaches in all of California, and it is also a must visit for any Pokémon Go player! The warm sands of Coronado are a great place to find rare Pokémon, particularly of a water type, such as Tentacool. Hoping to catch enough Magikarp to evolve it into a Gyarados? Looking for that elusive Pikachu? They spawn regularly here! Slowpokes are also common in this area.

Balboa Park

Balboa Park is one of the best places to visit in San Diego, especially for the Pokémon Go enthusiast! Hosting 17 museums, 15 gardens, several performing arts venues, and the San Diego Zoo, it is no wonder that Balboa Park is full of Pokéstops and Gyms. This is a great place to see some of the best attractions in the city, and be one step closer to catching all 151 Pokémon!
